Utah handles registered agent changes as plain amendments, with no special agent form on the pages we read. The Division of Corporations and Commercial Code lists "change an address, principal, registered agent" as examples of what an amendment covers. Our Utah business guide covers search and other fees, and our Utah LLC guide covers the formation.
One limit up front. The Division pages we reached do not spell out who may serve as a Utah agent, whether the agent must consent, or what address counts. We will not guess. For those points, read the Utah Code title on LLCs, 48-3a, or ask a Utah lawyer.
How do I change my agent?
Log in to the Division's online system with your UtahID. Choose to file on an existing business, search for the entity by name or number, pick the entity, and select the filing type from the drop-down list. The system then walks you through the steps.
The fee schedule shows two numbers that apply. Online changes cost $17, and an amendment for a domestic or foreign entity is also $17. All fees are non-refundable.
How does an agent resign?
The foreign LLC page groups "Registered Agent Resignation" with amendments, corrections and withdrawals. All four use the same path: file on an existing business, choose the filing type. The Division also lists a resignation letter among its forms.
The pages do not give a resignation fee or say how long it takes to take effect. They also do not say what happens to the company afterward. Do not assume a notice period. Name a replacement before the old agent leaves, so there is no gap.
What do the agent-related fees add up to?
All of these come from the Division's fee schedule, and none is refundable.
- Online change, including an agent change: $17
- Amendment for a domestic or foreign entity: $17
- Expedited processing, if you need it: $75 per filing
- Registered principal search: $3
- Business entity search of principals: $1
For most LLCs the realistic cost of swapping an agent is the $17 change. Add the $75 only when the date matters.
What are commercial registered agents in Utah?
Commercial registered agents register with the Division. Among its small filings the Division lists Commercial Registered Agent (CRA) registrations. The fee schedule shows $52 for a registration, $52 for a change and $52 for a termination. We do not list or compare any such agent. If you use a business to act as your agent, check that it is registered, then read our registered agent overview.
Can I be my own agent?
The pages we read do not say whether an owner may. If you want to, read be your own registered agent and then confirm the rule in the Utah Code. The practical issue is that the agent's details sit on a record anyone can search.
How do I look up an agent in Utah?
Open the Division's Entity Search and use the principal search. Enter the Principal Name or Registered Agent Name. The results list every entity tied to that name. Click an entity to see its details. The Division adds that if you prefer not to view the principals online, you can contact its office for that information.
The fee schedule lists the registered principal search at $3 and the business entity search of principals at $1. See our registered agent lookup guide for how to read the result and what to do with a stale address. If you need to serve papers, our service of process guide explains the basics.
