BusinessEntityLookup.org helps you find a company in the right state register, read what the record says and check a name before you form. The records themselves stay with each state. We link to them, we never copy them, and we never charge you to look at them.
What we do
- One guide per state, plus Washington, DC. Each guide covers that state's own search tool, what it searches by, the status words it uses, name rules, the main fees, the report deadline and the certificate of good standing.
- A company name search. It cleans up the name you type the way many states compare names, then searches our copy of the state's free public register and shows the records here. Each result shows the date of the state file. For states without a free file, it opens the state's own search.
- Fee and deadline tools. They compare state filing fees and report rules across all 51 jurisdictions, from the same checked data as the state guides.
- Help to form a company, if you ask. The start form collects your plan. We reply by email with next steps.
What we do not do
We are not a Secretary of State, a Division of Corporations or any other state office. We do not file documents with a state, act as a registered agent, give legal or tax advice, or sell any records. Nothing on this site is an official name approval. Only the state decides when it accepts a filing.
How we keep it accurate
Every fee, date and rule on a state guide carries a link to the state page, form or statute it came from and the date we last checked it. When a state changes a fee or moves its search to a new portal, the guide changes with it. See our data and sources for the method.
Independence
No state office, registered agent or filing service pays to appear in our guides. If we add links to formation services later, they will be marked as sponsored and they will never change the facts on a page.
